Urth Yarns has created something unique and beautiful. Artisan women in Turkey hand-dye every batch of yarn. They say they aim for “love at first touch.” And once you touch them, we’re sure you’ll fall in love too!
Proceeds from every skein of yarn go to Trees for the Future, which plants forest gardens around the world. The trees are planted in a way that helps farmers earn more money, increases their income year round and increases their resilience when weather issues or market issues cause problems with a particular crop.
We’ve been fans of the high-quality, hand-dyed yarns created by Urth Yarns for a while now. We were especially excited when they announced their limited edition self-striping tiger stripe sock yarn. Based on your responses to our social posts about it, you are too! If you were wondering what else they make, here are a few of our favorites.
This incredible hand-dyed self-striping sock yarn is 75% merino for warm softness and 25% nylon for durability. The machine-washable yarn comes in two identically dyed balls so you can create perfectly matched striped socks. And if you share a photo of the socks online with the hashtag #knitoneplantone they will plant a tree in Africa. How good is that? They’ve just added this fabulous tiger stripe pattern, which are in stock now.
You may have seen this machine-washable 100% merino yarn as one of the two yarns used in the gorgeous Papillon shawl. This luscious fingering-weight yarn is dyed with fruits, roots and nuts for gorgeous vibrant tones and a slight variability in colour that echoes nature.
This 100% extrafine merino fingering-weight yarn is “uneek” indeed! It’s also showcased in the Papillon shawl, but can also be used in many other beautiful patterns featured on the Urth Yarns site. It is soft and touchable and the gentle change of colour is simply breathtaking. And we have just added 4 brand new colourways!
Have you wanted to create a shawl, sweater or blanket using a soft gradient of yarn color but just couldn’t find the right colourways? Look no further. These fantastic kits, currently available for pre-order, feature four skeins of fingering weight superfine merino. Each skein is slightly lighter in tone than the previous one, giving you exactly what you need to create that perfect gradient in your project.
