Rauma Garn | Finull
NZ$12.50 inc GST
Made in Norway from 100% Norwegian wool, Finull (Norwegian for “fine wool”) is a versatile workhorse yarn that comes in a staggering array of colours. It makes light, airy, yet warm garments that hold their shape well, and because the yarn is so voluminous and airy, you can use a wide range of knitting gauges and get a successful result. Finull blooms beautifully and becomes softer after washing, and projects made from it hold up well to frequent use. This versatile yarn can be used for garments, accessories and homewares and works well with plain knitting, as well as textured knits and colourwork. It is not superwashed and is excellent for felting. It also works incredibly well paired with another yarn.
It is similar to yarns often labelled as “Shetland weight” and works well in many patterns intended for such yarns, and the range of colours makes it a great choice for intricate multi-colour designs. (While we are starting with 41 colours, the full range is well over 120! We will bring more in as we can.)
This isn’t as soft as some yarns such as superwash merinos and sillks, and it is possible that some people may not want it on their neck. However it is by no means coarse, with a lovely crisp toothiness that is pleasant to the touch, and both of us here would happily wear it on our skin with no concerns.
While this can be used for socks and mittens, check out 2-tråds Gammelserie for something that is even more suitable!
About Rauma Garn
Rauma Garn is a Norwegian yarn brand with a long history and is still run by the same family today who started it. Their Norwegian wool made in Norway is spun at Rauma Ullvarefabrikk (or Rauma wool factory), which is tucked among high mountains and overlooks a beautiful fjord, where they have been spinning quality yarn for almost 100 years. They also work with manufacturers around the world to create yarns using other fibres to their specifications. Their century of knowledge is embedded in every yarn that they make or that bears their brand. Norwegian wool is known for its strength, lustre, wearability, durability, and warmth and Rauma believe that the sheep, the farmer and nature should be treated with respect.
