Description
What happens when you take some of the world’s best yarn dyers, give them a theme, and let them have at it? You get an exclusive, never-to-be-repeated, sock yarn potluck colourway!
In our case, our sock yarn potluck theme was all about the sky and the amazing colours it produces. Think sunsets, twilight, aurora, moon stars and clouds. The sky is so many beautiful colours! This colourway is Fiery Skies – all the hot, vibrant, bright colours that light up overhead. This kit has 5 skeins of Hedgehog Fibres’ most famous base, Sock Yarn. Each skein is a unique exclusive potluck colourway, that you can use by itself, or use all 5 for a perfectly coordinated fade! And just as these colours were a mystery to us until we received them, they are currently a mystery to you as well! Order yourself a surprise and enjoy unpacking them! (But if you really want to know in advance, email us and we will send you a photo!)
About Hedgehog Fibres Sock Yarn
It may be called Sock Yarn, but it’s great for so much more than that! If you’ve heard of Hedgehog Fibres you’ve definitely heard of Sock Yarn. People use it for shawls, scarves, baby items, hats, and…the occasional sock, too! This fingering weight superwash yarn is 90% merino wool and 10% nylon. And it’s soooo nice on your skin! The 21.5 micron merino wool is mulesing free, softly spun, non-scratchy yarn. The perfect balance of soft and durable, the dye takes especially beautifully on this base. Sock Yarn is the ideal yarn for accessories, especially Stephen West designs for fingering weight yarns. You can also hold it double for a heavier weight project which makes a soft, supple fabric with even more variegation.
Patterns for Hedgehog Fibres Sock Yarn Potluck
Beata Jezek’s free Le Pouf cardigan pattern has the balloon sleeves you’re looking for. There’s also a cool colour transition built into the design.
The intricate Baseline shawl pattern is made with a simple garter stitch. Because you add the width in sections, you can make it as large as you want it to be, from a small wrap to a cozy shanket. The addition of Hedgehog Fibres’ Kidsilk Lace gives it a translucent effect.
