Entwined: Cables, Lace and Knitted Textures (Meiju Kallio)

Entwined: Cables, Lace and Knitted Textures, invites you to explore enchanting stitch patterns. For this book, Meiju Kallio presents not only the intricate cables she is known for but also a variety of other textures, all crafted to suit a modern, versatile style. 

This collection of 20 knitwear designs includes a range of garments and accessories — from elegant sweaters and cosy cardigans to beautiful hats and shawls. Every design contains clever use of texture, from a simple yet striking all-over lace pattern on a beanie, to a textured yoke featuring cables and bobbles, or small all-over repeating textures on a vest to a sweater that contrasts large scale cables to small ones, so there is something for all design tastes. There are even sets of coordinated hats and shawls. Due to the textured nature of these designs, we recommend these for intermediate and above knitters – but if you are an adventurous beginner and you see something you love, these clearly written patterns are a great place to jump in the deep end. All designs are accompanied by gorgeous, moody photography so it is beautiful to look at and take inspiration from between knits as well. 

Designed over a difficult and transformative year in Meiju’s life, each design reflects her emotional arc at the time. Knitting became Meiju’s therapy: a way to process, to pause, and eventually, to rediscover her creativity. Some designs were born in a haze of emotion; others mark the return of lightness and play. Together, they form a powerful narrative in stitches. Meiju hopes that working on these designs brings you comfort, joy, creative clarity, and a sense of accomplishment.

Most garments come in 9 sizes and are graded to fit at least 155 cm/62 inch chest.

About Meiju Kallio

Ever since she was young, Meiju has preferred to design her own knitting patterns and that desire has grown into both a passionate hobby and a part-time career, as well as a way to navigate the ups and downs of life. Renowned for her use of texture, Meiju has an extensive catalogue of knitting patterns available from her directly, and has also had patterns published in a range of magazines. Entwined is her second knitwear book, and it follows the success of her debut book, Contrasts, published by Laine Publishing in 2021. Meiju Kallio lives in Helsinki, Finland, with her three sons.
