We’ve been planning this for months and now it’s finally here: our Papillon shawl knitalong! If you aren’t familiar with the Papillon shawl, it’s a remarkable pattern designed by Marin Melchior. Knitters around the world love this pattern, but sometimes people find it a bit intimidating. What better way to start than with many other people who are starting alongside you?

Papillon Shawl Knitalong Start Date: October 2, 2021

We want to give you plenty of time to get your materials together! You are of course welcome to start earlier if you like, but this will be our official start day.

We’ll host an online cast-on video chat event on Saturday, October 2 at 3pm New Zealand time if you want to join a bunch of other people to do it live. Many people find it to be a little complicated at the beginning but you’ll have the support of lots of other knitters to get you through! Find the details to join our Papillon shawl knitalong cast-on event on our Events Page!

Share Your Papillon Shawl Knitalong Process and Win Prizes!

Post photos of your progress and finished shawls on Facebook and Instagram. You can post public photos on your wall and tag us, on our wall in comments, or on Instagram – in all cases using our hashtag. Our official hashtag is #TYQPapillon.* Not on social media? Email us your photos as well! Have you finished a Papillon already, or are part way through already? That is ok – you can still share your photos and tag them to participate!  We will occasionally share these photos in blog posts and in email to show off your great work!

Wait a minute, what was that “prize” part again?

Yes, PRIZES! On October 30, November 27 and Boxing Day we will hold a drawing for a $50 gift certificate. Anyone who has posted a photo of their Papillon progress and tagged us or used the hashtag, or emailed us a photo, will be entered to win.

You can post as many photos as you like, but only one entry per person per period. You can only win once – we think you are lovely and awesome and someone who should get all the presents but everyone deserves a chance! You must email us the photo, post it to our Facebook page with a note that it’s part of the Papillon KAL and add the hashtag, post it to your own page as a public post and tag us and add the hashtag (because we can’t see it if it’s not a public post!), or post it as a public post on Instagram and tag us and add the hashtag (again, we value your privacy, but we can’t see it if it’s private!)

Entries for the October 30 draw will be from all photos posted for the contest from October 2–October 28. Then for the November 27 draw it will be photos from October 29–November 25. And for the Boxing Day draw it will be all photos from November 26–December 23.
