We are a yarn business, and we need people to order yarn from us to stay that way. But our goal isn’t to encourage people just to buy heaps and stash it away. Our goal is to inspire people to use their yarn so they can fulfil their creative urges, play and have fun, explore colour and texture, and simply enjoy the process of making things, knowing there are no rules. We want to help people create the things that they wish existed.
Introducing The Yarn Queen Creator’s Programme
The Yarn Queen Creator’s Programme is intended to encourage people to make things, share their experiences, and in turn inspire others to do the same.
We have two categories of participation:
Do you want to take part? Read on!
Rewarded Creators: How It Works
Rewarded creators (that’s you!) create a project using yarn bought from The Yarn Queen. Share your project progress on Instagram or Facebook and tag us. Each month we will randomly select one post to receive a $100 store gift voucher. (If you’re on a different platform, let us know and we can discuss!)
- We will select winners at random.
- Winners will have their images reposted to The Yarn Queen social feeds, and possibly even the website.
- Each relevant post that we are tagged in is an entry. (You may tag us in posts about the All Blacks or your Heated Rivalry fanfiction, but unless they also involve creating with our yarn, they will not be included in the drawing.)
- Please tag us in the caption — tagging in photos or using our hashtag may mean we don’t see your post and won’t enter you in the draw!
- You do not need to have a lot of followers, but we do need to be able to see your posts. If your post is not public we cannot include it in the draw.
- Your posts can be of any point in your process: unboxing, inspiration/planning, swatching, casting on, WIP, casting off, or even frogging! We want people to see the journey of making, and be excited to undertake their own making.
We want to see and share what you are making! Show others the joy of creating (and maybe get rewarded too).
Sponsored Creators: How It Works
Sponsored creators (that’s you!) will agree on a project with us in advance. Once we agree, The Yarn Queen will provide the pattern (if needed) and all the yarn you need to make it. In exchange, you will provide us with images and/or videos, and some text documenting your process that we can share on our platforms. Think of it like writing a guest post! (And don’t get too stressed out about the writing part; we can help you with that.)
- Applications are always open! Send in your interest and your ideas at any time. Your project needs to use yarn that we stock, and you need to show us your project idea and how the yarn will be used.
- Projects can be knitting, crochet, weaving, or in fact anything at all that uses our yarn!
- Successful applicants will be selected based on factors including: proven ability to complete a project, demonstrated ability to shoot and send quality photos and video of the process, and whether the project is different from projects other sponsored creators are making. (If we only ran pictures of Mrs. Phelps Granny Squares for a year, people would get bored pretty quickly!)
- We may accept but ask if we can schedule it for several months down the road, because, for example, we may need to order the yarn that you need if you are accepted.
- You do not need to be an established content creator or influencer to apply. In fact, you don’t need to have any public platform at all!
- If you do have a public platform and you want to make and share your own content on both our platform and yours, we’d love for you to do that! Check the requirements of your platform, and note that the yarn was gifted if required.
- We are after honesty and inspiration! We want to help people make informed choices about their yarn, which means helping them match it up to their needs and desires. Knowing how a yarn looks, handles or behaves – including the frustrations – is part of that. We also want makers to know that they are not alone in experiencing the joys and downsides of the creating process! (Film that frogging!)
