The Sunday Sweater by Pam Stark. A woman wears a gray beanie, a rust-colored crochet long sleeved sweater with a cowl neck, and blue jeans. She is standing in front of some trees and tall grasses.

The Sunday Sweater

The Sunday Sweater by Pam Stark has options! It is available in sizes from XS to 5X. You can make it with either a generous cowl neck or a simple rolled collar that is still a visual standout. It’s made from the top down and the sleeves are crocheted in raglan style. The pattern is intermediate level; you will need to know how to slip stitches. We would recommend Wool and the Gang’s Alpachino Merino for this one.

Sirdar's 10726 Wildflower Roll Neck. A dark-haired woman wears a roll neck sweater dress with stitches in a wave pattern in blue yellow and white

10726 Wildflower Roll Neck

Sirdar’s 10726 Wildflower Roll Neck crochet pattern may not have the most poetic pattern name, but this crocheted turtleneck dress has a cool retro vibe to it. It uses double treble chevron stitches at the hem and progressively reduces the size of the stitches as you work your way from bottom to top. This sweater is crocheted flat and has both a written pattern and a schematic. The pattern uses UK crochet terms. We would recommend Malabrigo Rios as the yarn for this pattern.

Comfy Arm and Neck Warmer. A blue garment that is a turtleneck and sleeves (but nothing else) sits on a gray background with three roses between the arms.

Comfy Arm and Neck Warmer

Do you like shrugs or scarves with sleeves? You may also like this Comfy Arm and Neck Warmer crochet pattern, which offers a turtleneck and long sleeves but no body. If you have something that you’d like a turtleneck under, but is too snug for a full sweater, this could be a solution. The pattern is beginner-friendly, so if you are looking for a first project this may be the one! We would recommend Broadway Purely Wool for a cozy wearing experience.

Sterling Road Sweater by Lee Sartori. A blond model stands in front of a large bush wearing a thick turtleneck sweater in cream speckled yarn with purple speckled yarn from mid-forearm to wrist.

Sterling Road Sweater

If you want to crochet a sweater and have it look knit, the Sterling Road Sweater crochet pattern by Lee Sartori is the pattern for you. Sartori is upfront: this is not a quick project. But if you want something that will be a worthwhile investment of time, this may be the one. This pattern is of medium difficulty and you will need to be comfortable with foundationless half double crochet and front and back post half double crochet to make it. It is crocheted in one piece from the top down and has raglan sleeves. A great yarn for this would be Urth Yarns Harvest DK.

Braids of Grass sweater. A dark-haired woman wears a gray sweater with a herringbone cable pattern at the wrists and neck. She is pulling the collar up.

Braids of Grass

The beautiful Braids of Grass funnelneck knitting pattern was designed as a sweater with cabling, but no purling. Ailbíona McLochlainn designed both a DK version and a fingering weight version of the pattern. Reviewers rate it as very clear and beginner-to-intermediate level difficulty. The pattern comes with a chart and a written pattern. It’s worked top-down in the round as one piece. It would look lovely in Juniper Moon Farms Moonshine yarn.

Winters Pullover. A woman with brown hair wears an oversized, bulky knitted sweater with a robust turtleneck collar.

Winters Pullover

The Winters Pullover turtleneck knitting pattern designed by Ozetta is exactly the oversized turtleneck that so many people are craving right now. It is worked from the top down and has a fold down turtleneck. It can be knitted with a combination of lace and worsted weight yarn or just worsted weight yarn. Techniques used include backwards loop cast-on, increasing, decreasing, German Short Rows, holding stitches, picking up stitches, and sewn tubular bind off, but the good news is the pattern has video support for many of these! If you decide to use a strand of worsted and a strand of lace, we recommend Malabrigo Rios and Urth Bonmoher held together.

Dryad Sweater. A woman with red hair wears a green sweater with a low turtleneck. The sweater uses twisted stitches to create angled lines on the sleeve and torso.

Dryad Sweater

The texture of the Dryad Sweater turtleneck knitting pattern by Caledonia Dreaminn is what sets it apart. Twisted stitches create mesmerizing lines on the arms and torso. It is knitted from bottom up in the round with no seams. The sweater is cropped but has an option to extend the hem downward. We would recommend Broadway NZ Merino for this one.
